The Beyond Face Artistic Process: A Creative Space to Tell Stories

Feb 1, 2023 at 00:00 — Mar 1, 2023 at 23:59 (GMT)
Organiser: Take A Part

This remote training session comprises of 4 videos. You’ll hear from Artistic Director Alix Harris, Executive Producer Helen Bovey and some of the artists who worked on our Production 2000 Stories, which premiered at the Theatre Royal Plymouth in 2019 and was part of the M400 Cultural Programme. With 2000 Stories as a case study, Beyond Face will talk about their work and give examples of how they tell stories. The session focuses on our process - how they tell stories and how they devise and create work.

Beyond Face CIC was founded in 2015 by Theatre Practitioner Alix Harris who, after working in Plymouth and running a series of consultation workshops, recognised the need for a company such as Beyond Face to exist in Plymouth & Devon. You can find out more about us here - www.beyondface.co.uk

The session is split into 4 videos, you can watch them all at once in a series, or come back to watch the next video later.

Video 1: An introduction to Beyond Face

In this video, Artistic Director Alix Harris will speak about Beyond Face’s work, how and why the company was formed and the different strands to our work. In order to understand our creative process, it is important to understand the context in which we operate.

Video 2: A conversation on 2,000 Stories

Join Corinne Walker, Assistant Director on 2000 Stories and Shiquerra Robertson, Performer in 2000 Stories, for a conversation on being part of the project. During the conversation, the team dissect the research and development process and talk about working with Beyond Face in comparison to other companies.

Video 3: Working with a Movement Director

Movement is a crucial part of Beyond Face’s artistic work. Alix Harris collaborated with Movement Director Jules Laville on 2000 Stories, and this was a vital method of storytelling in the piece. During this video, Alix is joined by Jules to discuss the role of a Movement Director, how the process worked for 2000 Stories. This video will give you insight into working with a Movement Director, if you haven’t done so before.

Video 4: Top Tips for Storytelling

Now you will have an insight into how we work and have watched the case study of 2000 Stories, in this final video, Executive Producer Helen Bovey speaks about her role communicating the story to the wider public and the process for developing a marketing campaign. Following this, Alix Harris discusses storytelling and shares her top tips. It is important to note that this is the process Beyond Face went through for 2000 Stories, and each of our projects is unique.
