Labour Friends of Fishing: Launch Reception

Nov 14, 2017 at 18:00 — 20:00 (GMT)
Organiser: Luke Pollard MP

The launch for Labour Friends of Fishing is on Tuesday 14 November 2017 at 6pm-8pm in Committee Room 6, House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA. We invite you to join us to kick off what we hope will be the new home of Labour Party debate around fishing.

Fishing is a vital industry for so many of our coastal communities and it is right that the industry has a strong voice within the Labour Party. Labour Friends of Fishing is a new forum designed to help bring together all the different voices within the Labour movement to contribute to the debate around fishing.

Guest speakers include:

  • Sue Hayman MP, the Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
  • Holly Lynch MP, the Shadow Fisheries Minister

If you are able to attend please RSVP. This is a new group and we are keen to invite as many different voices from within the movement as possible. Fishing and the associated industries has long been an important contributor to the UK economy. It has sustained communities from Cornwall to Scotland and Wales to Kent. But as an industry it faces an uncertain future because of Brexit and changes in regulation.

With the Government soon to publish its post-Brexit Fishing Bill and also the upcoming Annual Fisheries Debate in the Commons we believe it is the right time for the Labour movement to come together on fishing. We want fishing to have a strong Labour story and for Labour MPs, Councillors, AMs, MSPs and activists to have a strong Labour story to tell about the industry, employment, sustainability and growth.

*Non Pass Holders please enter through the Cromwell Green entrance and allow 15 minutes to pass security.*
