The ecosystems on your doorstep – how to engage communities with the natural world

Nov 10, 2020 at 13:30 — Nov 17, 2020 at 13:30 (GMT)

CPD event: Tuesday 10 November (session 1) and Tuesday 17 November (session 2)

1.30 pm – 3.30 pm - to be held online

Many of us have discovered the value of nature and our neighbourhood green spaces in recent months. As we move forward through the times of COVID-19, we have the opportunity to foster local biodiversity and strengthen communities, both ecological and human, in the process. Learn more about the ‘wild’ spaces on your doorstep, explore ways to engage others with nature, as well as how we can all get involved to make a difference.

The course will ideally suit:

  • anyone thinking about doing a further qualification in ecology/environment
  • environmental consultancy staff
  • public communications specialists
  • non-formal educators
  • natural resources and heritage staff/volunteers who would like to be able to better inform and engage visitors with their site
  • those with a community development background who want to learn more about biodiversity
  • people with an ecology background who want to better engage communities
  • anyone who is interested in developing a greater understanding of the nature on their doorstep

To be run by Dr Jen Loyd-Pain, Research Fellow Schumacher Institute, Certified Interpretive Practitioner.

Jen is a wildlife conservation educator and surveyor who has worked for the past 20 years to better connect people with the wildlife on their own doorsteps. Her focus is on fostering biodiversity, particularly in urban settings, through active public engagement.
