How to become an RTO

Jul 6, 2020 at 09:00 — 16:30 (AEST)

In this workshop, we'll run through the key factors on how to achieve initial registration and become an RTO. The vocational education and training (VET) sector plays an important role in shaping Australia's economic prosperity, and the demand for high quality training is on the rise. The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) is the regulator for the training and registered training organisations (RTOs). In order to become an RTO, you will need to submit your initial registration application with ASQA.

In 2019, ASQA announced substantial changes to the initial registration process. The main changes are:

  • More thorough financial viability checks
  • More extensive background checks of people associated with the RTO
  • More comprehensive self-assessment
  • No longer able to make changes to the application once submitted
  • No longer able to correct non-compliance prior to ASQA's decision

Of the 97 applications for initial registration made between 1 July 2018 and 31 March 2019, only 33 have been approved. That’s a 34% success rate.

In order to avoid the pitfalls and be successful on the first go, we will be running through this extensive guide as a group, answering any questions you might have about the initial application and the processes. Having gone through initial registration ourselves in 2020, we can answer questions not only from an RTO consultant perspective but also as an applicant.
