Jane Athron - Online Peer Crit

Jul 1, 2020 at 18:30 — 19:30 (BST)

For the second in our series of online peer crits, Jane Athron invites you to discuss her work:

"On returning to England after 25 years living in Mexico city I got my BA(hons) 1999, and my MA 2001 at Portsmouth University, in Art, both in Design and Media. Shortly after I went back to Mexico to live and work until 2006, when I settled in Portsmouth until February 2019 when I moved to Plymouth. I have worked as a visual artist since leaving school in various ways. Now I mainly work by project on a
variety of subjects using photography, film, light boxes, text, handmade dolls, painting, drawing and printmaking.

The project I am working on at present is informed by the Covid19 pandemic. It takes the form of a visual allegorical, 'journal'; of my reactions to the current crisis we are all facing. The allegorical actors I choose are characters I either find, create or already have in my collection. How I position them on the canvas brings about the degree of tension, conflict or empathy between the various actors. Although each piece can stand alone, the meaning is best derived from its context within the complete storyline. So that the work is best viewed as a progression from beginning to end."
