Managing Successful Programmes (MSP®) was developed as a best practice guide to Programme Management. The guide comprises a set of Principles and Processes for use when managing a programme.

MSP represents proven programme management best practice to successfully deliver transformational change through the application of programme management. MSP is very flexible and designed to be adapted to meet the needs of local circumstances.

This course will provide you with a thorough understanding of the internationally recognised and best practice programme management methodology, providing the skills you need to confidently use MSP to manage programmes in line with strategic aims of a business and its day to day running.

What will I learn?

By the end of this course, you will have the skills to be able to identify and document the vision of a programme, thus aligning it to the strategic aims of the business. You will be able to coordinate the projects of a programme to ensure the correct application of resources and risk, issue and change management. You will also be able to interface with the day to day business to ensure the smooth transition of changes delivered by a programme into business as usual activity and ensure that the benefits that the programme is designed to deliver are achieved.

After successful completion of the Foundation course (days 1-3), delegates will gain an understanding of the following areas:

  • Organise and contribute constructively to managing programmes
  • Demonstrate knowledge of MSP principles, organisation, techniques, transformation and delivery tranches in an organisational setting
  • Assist the planning and delivery of programmes
  • Understand the benefits from identification to realisation

Practitioner level builds on this understanding enabling you to apply the knowledge to a given organisational situation.

Is it for me?

The course is recommended for Programme Managers with responsibilities within a programme environment, those working in programme support offices or project managers who are working within a programme environment. It will also help managers or anyone who interacts with programmes.

Exam Format

A pass is required at Foundation level to undertake Practitioner.

Pre-course study is recommended - approximately 10 hours for Foundation and 20 for combined to enable a depth of understanding and more than just exam passes to be gained from the course.

Foundation level lasts three days with a one hour, closed book exam on day three, which requires 50% to pass. Practitioner lasts two days with a two and a half hour, open book exam on day five, which requires 50% to pass.
