Burn All Books - CinePunked @ Belfast Book Festival - Distance Participation
Jun 12, 2019 at 20:30 — Jun 13, 2019 at 09:30 (BST)
As part of the 2019 Belfast Book Festival CinePunked is holding a debate on censorship in literature and cinema, inspired by Rad Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451, and a public book burning, and we'd like you to get involved, wherever you are.
Who is to say what we should and shouldn't read?
Should we ban books?
Which books would you like to eradicate?
The panel includes CinePunked's own Robert JE Simpson (editor, publisher) and R.B. Kelly (author, academic) plus Steven Rainey (BBC presenter and producer) and Neil Sedgewick (critic, Films & Faith).
Post panel, join us for a ceremonial book burning.
Attendees to the ceremonial burning will each be invited to bring along a book for the fire, and will be asked to briefly share their reasons for burning their chosen title (in person tickets are available via https://belfastbookfestival.com/whats-on/cinepunked-presents-burn-all-books). We will be filming, photographing (and hopefully streaming) the process. So you'll be asked to tell us who you are, what your book is, and why you are burning it, before it is added to the pile. We'll be adding a section to cinepunked.com recording the event and the choice of titles and reasons as a record of the process.
But, we know it will not be possible for everyone to attend, and we don't want anyone to miss out. So if you can't be in attendance, but would like to participate, we will invite you to send your own books to us for burning on your behalf.
