Bath Strings Academy and Hayesfield Girls' School Present: BBC Ten Pieces 2019

PLEASE SCROLL DOWN AND READ IN FULL BEFORE BOOKING

Once again we are putting on our BBC Ten Pieces Intergenerational Orchestral Workshop,  and this year is going to be even more AMAZING than last! Join us, as star conductor Patrick Bailey from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, leads us on a trajectory through Holst’s ‘The Planets’.  Read more about Patrick here.

We will be playing the music from ‘Mars’ as well as developing our own creative response to Holst’s masterpiece. Bath Strings Academy’s team of specialist staff will be joined by experienced musicians who will play side-by-side with participants; our aim is to supportencourage and inspire our musical community to achieve new heights in their playing.

You can see the fruits of last year's workshop in this video on the BBC website: Bath Strings Academy and Friends Community Hoe-Down

Who is the workshop suitable for?

The workshop is open to orchestral instrumentalists of all ages.

Strings and Percussion players from beginners to advanced players.

Woodwind and Brass players need to be of Grade 2 standard or above.

This is a family event, and children are encouraged to bring their parents along to join in!  For any non-playing adults or children wishing to become part of this community musical event, there will be a limited number of violins, violas and cellos available to try and hire for a small fee (£5 cash on collection).  Non-playing children must be aged 7 and over and must be accompanied by an adult. in order to provide appropriate support.  Preparatory activities will be provided to ensure that beginner players feel well-prepared for the event, and on the day initial tuition will be provided in a small group, before joining the main orchestra.

We take our safeguarding responsibilities very seriously.  A full risk assessment has been carried out and appropriate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of participants at all times, taking into account the specific requirements of an intergenerational event.

IMPORTANT: Music

We will be using the BBC Ten Pieces arrangements of Mars.  These are available in Beginner, Grades 1 - 3 and Grades 4+ parts for each instrument.  More advanced players will be invited to add sections from the original score.  You need to dowload the music and practice it before the workshop.  Music is available from the BBC Ten Pieces website, here.  Scroll down to the section "Arrangements: Play the Piece with Simplified Parts" and select the appropriate level and instrument.  Watch the videos about the piece to find out more, and perhaps search the 'creative response' sections of the Ten Pieces site to watch other schools and groups performing Mars.

If you have any difficulty, please contact us by email at bathstringsacademy@gmail.com
