Organiser: The Chestnut Appeal for Men's Health

Looe Island to East Looe Beach Swim

The 2019 Looe Island to East Looe Beach swim will take place on Sunday 8th September with a swim time of around 13.00.

The length of the swim is a little over a mile.

Swimmers are transported by Glass-Bottomed Boat to the Island where they will alight.  The Safety Briefing will take place on the Island and once the safety team are in place the swim back to East Looe Beach will begin.

The 2018 swim was a huge success and the 120 swimmers raised a fantastic £12,000.  The swim is held in partnership with the Rotary Club of Looe.

Registration for the swim is £35.  Your entry fee covers the cost of organising the event, but it's the money you raise that helps Prostate Cancer patients and their families, so we ask all our Looe Island Swimmers set themselves a target of at least £50.

Your £35 registration includes

  • Event swim cap
  • Full lifeguard and medical support
  • an event medal
  • A delicious pasty at the finish

The Looe Island swim offers unique viewing opportunities and finishes in the heart of Looe, so it’s not just an iconic swim for the competitors; it’s also great for friends, family and other spectators.

Safety will be provided the Looe RNLI, Looe Sailing Club and the Looe Harbour Commissioners.

The Island itself is a nature reserve owned by Cornwall Wildlife Trust, and the organisers are grateful for the cooperation of the Trust in allowing the swim to start from the Island beach, and to the boatmen who will ferry swimmers out for the start.

Money raised from the 2018 Looe Island Swim has been put towards the ongoing fundraising across Cornwall to enable the Chestnut Appeal to purchase an Ultrasound-MRI Fusion Scanner for the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

At a cost of £105,000 the Ultrasound - MRI Fusion Scanner for Targeted Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer is the very latest in equipment for faster diagnosis of prostate cancer.

The Chestnut Appeal will be celebrating 20 years in 2019 and our next campaign is to fund two research nurses.  The first soon to take post at Derriford and the other to be placed at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
