The 2019 Plymouth Breakwater Swim

The 2019 Chestnut Appeal Plymouth Breakwater Swim will take place on Sunday 4th August.  The swim takes place across a busy stretch of water – therefore we will start early with a swim time of around 08.30am.

Registration takes place on the Historic Barbican before swimmers are taken out by boat from Commercial Wharf to the Breakwater.

When the safety team, are in place the swim commences and some 40 minutes to two hours later swimmers will arrive on shore at Tinside Beach to warm applause and warm soup.

The swim is 4km and we ask that all those taking part have experience of open water swimming and should be able to complete around 160 lengths of a 25m pool.

Event Water Safety will provide the craft and expert cover for the event.

Registration for the swim is £50. Your entry fee covers the cost of organising the event, but it's the money you raise that helps Prostate Cancer patients and their families, so we ask all our Breakwater Swimmers set themselves a Sponsorship target of at least £50.

Your £50 registration includes

  • Water Safety Cover
  • Event swim cap
  • Full lifeguard and medical support
  • A medal and enamel mug
  • delicious soup at the finish

This is our main fundraiser of the year and with an anticipated 320 swimmers taking part its hoped that we can top £30,000 in 2019.

The Breakwater swim to date has raised over £175,000 for the Chestnut Appeal for Men’s Health.
