Talking Dogs Scent Work Level 1

Apr 28, 2018 at 10:00 — 16:00 (BST)

After the success of our first Talking Dogs Scent Workshop with Liesl DelaFontaine, we are repeating the level one workshop, this time with Linda Shearman (as poor Liesl is recovering from surgery).  This is the first in a series of workshops and covers the theory behind scent work, indications, safety considerations as well as, most importantly, introducing dogs to the game.

We teach the scent association with an active indication and build the dogs confidence for finding items. At the end of the first workshop you will have learnt about the scent picture, contamination, how to scent up your dog's articles and ongoing maintenance and how to set up simple searches with their dogs.

As existing clients will know, I am a BIG fan of scentwork as a great game to play with your dog - this isn't just for "serious" dogs, it's a fun day for any age, type or breed.

You can do levels one and two over this same weekend, please see the separate booking for level 2 on Sunday 29th.

We are very happy to have dogs who aren't comfortable around other dogs or people, as each dog works individually, and we can empty the room of people, too, if that's what your dog needs !  All dogs need to be comfortable waiting their turn in the car, and we will be very careful about organising toilet breaks, as we know that many dogs attending won't like to be around others.

Tea, coffee and cakes will be available throughout the day, but please bring a packed lunch, or you may like to pop out to the lovely Wayside Tea Rooms a few minutes away from the hall
