Woodland Carbon: The Opportunity for Welsh Farmers

Sep 21, 2021 at 13:00 — 14:00 (BST)
Organiser: Confor

A lack of clarity over future agricultural subsidies and new trade deals is combining to increase uncertainty for many farmers, particularly those in upland regions. Woodland creation is one way in which landowners and tenants can diversify their businesses, with the potential to realise income from the generation and sale of carbon credits under the Woodland Carbon Code.
This webinar, hosted by Confor Wales, will outline the rationale for increased woodland creation in Wales, as well as describing what public support is available to Welsh farmers who want to plant trees or enable natural regeneration on their land.
The opportunity to generate carbon credits will also be discussed, with Forest Carbon explaining how land managers can engage with the UK’s voluntary carbon market to realise income from the sale of carbon. Forest Carbon will then be joined in conversation by the charity, Stump Up for Trees, who recently used carbon finance to fund woodland creation on common grazing land at Bryn Arw.
