NPLQ with Canadian and American First Aid, Lifeguard and Stop the Bleed Certification

Participants will be given a promo code and list of NPLQ providers in the UK.  They will register for and successfully complete the NPLQ prior to attending the Canadian and American cross certification course.  The NPLQ course typically runs over two weekends but may be available in consecutive days.  The cross certification course occurs from 09:00 - 21:00 on both days.  Upon successful completion of this course participants will recieve the following certifications:

  1. UK NPLQ
  2. Canadian Red Cross Lifeguard 
  3. Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR (adult/child/infant) 
  4. ECSI First Aid & CPR (adult/child/infant) which is recognized in the UK and Europe
  5. Stop the Bleed

In order to be successful in the course participants will be required to complete both in class and online modules.  Completion criteria is as follows,

  • Must attend and participate in 100% of the course
  • Adhere to the lifeguard code of conduct as set by both the Royal Lifesaving Society and the Canadian Red Cross
  • Complete all assigned and evaluated tasks successfully

Participants must come prepared to learn with appropriate swimming attire and be physically fit to perform lifeguard functions including,

  • Consecutively performs combined rescue techniques in the following sequence without rescue equipment and wearing Tshirt and shorts. Steps 1–5 must be completed in 60 seconds:
    1. Safely approaches side of pool from 5 m away
    2. Safely enters water, choosing best entry
    3. Swims 15 m using head-up approach
    4. Retrieves submerged person/mannequin (person or mannequin should be at deepest section of pool, to a maximum depth of 3 m), surfaces, then releases person/mannequin
    5. Safely exits water without using a ladder (removal of person/mannequin is not required)
    6. Performs adult CPR for 2 minutes (AED is not required)
  • Consecutively performs combined rescue techniques in the following sequence without rescue equipment, starting in water, in less than 1 minute, 15 seconds:
    1. Swims 10 m under water
    2. Swims 15 m using head-up approach
    3. Touches the wall
    4. Picks up drowning person
    5. Uses appropriate carry; carries person 5 m
    6. Swims back (face down) to starting wall
  • Consecutively performs combined rescue techniques without rescue equipment in following sequence in less than 2 minutes:
    1. Safely enters water, choosing best entry
    2. Swims 25 m using a head-up front crawl
    3. Surface dives to adult person/mannequin (minimum depth of 1.5 m)
    4. Lifts person/mannequin and tows it a minimum of 25m to side of pool or nearest point of safety
  • Complete the following fitness evaluations:
    1. Swims 100 m in less than 2 minutes using a front crawl only
    2. Swims 50 m in less than 50 seconds with head above water
    3. Swims 400 m without equipment in less than 9 minutes 30 seconds
    4. Swims 15 m underwater and retrieves 3 objects placed 5 m apart in deepest end of the pool (max. depth 3 m) in 30 seconds
