Drakes Island Swim 2019

Organiser: The Chestnut Appeal for Men's Health

Plymouth Drakes Island Swim

Now in its fourth year the Chestnut Appeal’s Drakes Island swim will take place on Sunday 7th July with a swim time of around 09.30.

Participants will set off from the beach at Firestone Bay with the swim to Drakes Island and back taking place in the shelter of the Bay.

Situated in Plymouth Sound, this 6.5 acre Island has been home to a military fortification since the time of the Tudors. Today the Island is in private hands and although planning permission has been granted for a Hotel Complex the Island is now up for sale.

It’s a great swim for anyone new to an organised Open Water Swim at around 1.5km in distance.  Swimmers of all abilities and ages have taken part in this event .

Registration for the 2019 Drakes Island Swim is £30. Your entry fee covers the cost of organising the event, but it’s the money you raise that helps Prostate Cancer patients and their families across Devon and Cornwall.

So we ask all our swimmers set themselves a Sponsorship target of at least £50.

Your £30 registration includes

  • Water Safety Cover
  • Event swim cap
  • Full lifeguard and medical support
  • An event medal
  • delicious cake and refreshments at the finish

Fundraising from the last three Drakes Island swims has reached over £25,000.

The Chestnut Appeal for Men's Health has been able to provide the very latest in equipment for faster diagnosis of prostate cancer.  The MRI Fusion Scanners are now in place at Derriford Hospital and the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

The Chestnut Appeal is fundraising for two research nurses in 2019; one based in Plymouth and the other in Truro.
