This course will cover the basics of how the language works looking at lots of components of the base language that is Python.Python is a powerful, fast programming language that plays well with others, runs everywhere, is friendly and easy to learn. Its a general purpose language in nature however it has a large number of packages which allows it to be suitable for a variety of tasks from data analysis to web scraping. Pythons syntax is simple yet elegant making it easy to read and quick to develop in. 

Participants should bring a laptop.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • The Python Syntax: What code looks like and how to write it
  • Data types: How to assign and operate on variables
  • List, Tuples and Dictionaries: How to use the basic storage containers
  • Loops, If and While: Applying these logic statements to data
  • Writing functions: Creating code which can become resuable
  • Dealing with files: Showing how to read and write from files
  • Pandas: An introduction to the powerful package including aspects like DataFrames
